At the extreme Northwest end of New York City is a dot on the map known as Fieldston. Until the Henry Hudson Parkway was put through in 1936, it was little known to New Yorkers. Fieldston is a private community with 257 homes and estates on a 140 acre tract. Fieldston Property Owner Association oversees the maintenance of the streets including snow and leaf removal and provides 24-hour security service. Grand, mature oak trees line many of the private streets, drawing interesting birds and lucky bird watchers to the neighborhood. Fieldston houses several prestigious private schools including the Horace Mann School, Riverdale Country Day School, and the Fieldston School. It is also surrounded by other educational options, parochial (SAR Academy and the Kinneret Day School, St Margaret's and St. Gabriel's) as well as excellent public schools. Fieldston is bounded by Manhattan College to the south, Henry Hudson Parkway to the north and west and Tibbet Avenue to the east.
